White area rugs – Normally, white area rugs are washed once every year or two. Excessive exposure to water could damage the white area rugs. Care must be taken when washing rugs, however, often enough, the fabric is sensitive. Vacuum the white area rugs thoroughly to remove loose dirt and dust. Be careful when vacuuming around the edges of the mat where there may be fringe attached. Turn the rug over and vacuum underneath, as well, to remove dust and dirt.

Wash white area rugs, spot clean the area carpet needed. If there is a stain on the carpet, treat the individual stain before washing the entire carpet. Blot the stain with a clean, damp towel to remove the stain. Spray baking soda on the stain on the carpet will lift heavy stains. Vacuum up the baking soda when the stain is lifted. Wash the top of the carpet first. Place the carpet in a tub filled with warm water. Add a wool shampoo or a mild detergent to the water. Add 1 cup of white vinegar too.

Turn the mat over the tub and wash underneath. Use a soft scrub brush to thoroughly scrub away dirt and dust that has accumulated. Rinse the wash white area rugs with plain water to remove soap and dirt residues. A shower head attachment works well for rinsing. Continue rinsing until the water runs clear. Let the water out of the tub while the carpet inside. Use a squeegee to walk across the carpet to remove excess water. Lay the wash white area rugs flat to dry the carpet up.
